BMW 50TH Birthday party report!

BMW 600-50 Birthday Celebration

Sat, Sept 15, 2007 was the big day for our BMW 600 get together at my home in Benton, Kansas, USA. I had advertised the meet would go on “Rain or Shine” and we had some of both.
Thirty people from all over the Country showed up with six Limos and two Isettas all ready to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the introduction of the BMW 600 in 1957. Doug & Debbie Smith flew all the way from Anchorage, Alaska while Fritz drove many miles from Connecticut.
We started off with a wet trip to the nearby Benton Airport for breakfast and a car display for the locals. Many were surprised to see our little BMWs all lined up in the rain. Most had no idea BMW had ever built such strange little cars. After grilled burgers for lunch we headed back to my house.
With the rain letting up we were ready for some serious tire kicking and parts swapping. Several transaxels changed hands while dozens of stories did the same.
All the ballots were collected by 1:30 PM and John Masters got busy counting the results. While he counted we all sang Happy 50th Birthday to the Limo.
First place BMW 600 went to Carl Smith of Dover, Arkansas. A close second place was awarded to Mark Bruellman from Rolfe, Iowa and third place went to my 600 AeroCar.
In the Isetta category it was my wife Irene who won first with her red 1957-300. while my blue Isetta “Propeller car” took second place.
After the awards were presented we all enjoyed a great supper of spaghetti & meatballs prepared by Irene. As the sun set we said our goodbyes and wished each other safe travel home. I think a good time was had by all.
